I think you know my position on the matter, lacasner.

Guild Wars is one of the easiest games to quit, because there's no penalty for doing so.

However, Guild Wars won't be changing for 2 years due to the development of GW2, so yes, it will get stagnant, and you might as well quit now and avoid the masochism.

The main problem I see is that GW lacks sustantive goals. A title is just a line of text under your character which few players see anyways. Who cares?

(And why did half of the thread disappear? It seemed on-topic...)

Uh, this. If you're not having fun anymore, why on earth are you still playing? A lot of people are still enjoying this game, and no one thing is going to magically "revitalize" the game and keep it from becoming stagnant.

Put the game down. Go do something else for a while. Come back later--or even come back for GW2.

You did not say if you have done everything in the game or if you just did the same things over and over until your eyes were glazed over. If you have not tried pvp, give it a go...real life players can be unpredictable (except for the stupid smack talk) and sometimes you can get great pleasure killing off that loud mouth...

Play the game through with a different type of character. Playing a Mesmer or a Necro is far different than playing wammo. You may find that a different type of challenge sparks your interest. Someone suggested starting a character from scratch and not accessing already stored gold and weapons. Play the game the hard way...

Hard Mode! If you haven't tried vanquishing or missions in hard mode then you are missing out on some challenging play time. Underworld, Tombs, The Deep, Dungeons...

If none of this appeals to you then maybe you do just need to walk away

Joining a new guild rejuvenated my interest. Got bored again after a month though. I log on occasionally, but I never really do much.

Try a few new things. Strive for one thing you really want. If you're still bored, stop playing and do something else. You'll be happier and probably healthier.

Let's not generalize, shall we.

You get bored with the game, and declare it stagnant?

If you have no interest in the game - don't play.

We're not psychologists to probe into the motives behind your boredom, nor do I believe anyone here gives a rat's behind over why you are bored or would care to change it.

The game hasn't changed and at the same time, it's constantly changing. Beyond that, nobody here can offer anything of any kind of use to you.

I've stopped playing several times for a month or three. No need to make drama about it - it's a game, not a job or obligation.

Well, quite frankly previously I did play it a lot (i have like 1,500 hours total in like 20 months) so its not like I didn't get my bang for my buck. However, with new chapters and PvP balances and updates being more frequent in the past(this is not a hunch, but I am fairly certain it is a fact), I had a wider variety of things to do.

There is no obligation to play this game, but since I did enjoy it quite a lot, I (and i'm sure others who are contemplating quiting as well) would at least like to know what caused this, or what can prevent it.

Perhaps it would make more sense to focus on the actual concept of whether or not GW truly is stagnant..and why. Lack of updates plus no real beneficial content is what makes my opinion of it decline.

But I'd like to know other people's opinions as well, so please explain your assertions

Games aren't fun forever.

It got boring - just like every other game does.

So you're saying it's ANet's fault that the game is no longer fun? You might as well complain to id Software that Doom is boring.

And how is it ANet's obligation to keep adding updates to the game? Where does it say that they have to continually add content? Nowhere. You bought the game, you had your fun with it. Now go play some TF2 or Portal or something.

(and what's benefical content, anyways??)

About a month before EoTN came out, I was on the verge of quitting. I was absolutely bored to tears with everything the game had to offer. I was shifting more and more over to counter-strike and averaged about 20 minutes a week on GW. However, all it takes is one catalyst to get someone back into a game. For me it was a book (Atlas Shrugged), and it reminded me of how much fun I have trying to make money in games. I started buying and selling, and then soon I was back into the game completely.

For you I would suggest trying something completely different. Try to max storage gold (farming is probably a bad idea because it is so stagnant) or get a cool title that isnt a total grind (like skill hunter). Once you get back into one area, it is so easy to become re-immersed in the game that you once loved so much.

I also find that it is a good thing to have another game to play. For me it is Counter Strike. If I am ever bored of GW or just want to shake things up, ill log on to CS and frag some scrubs It helps keep things fresh for both games.

Best of Luck

Cale

Whoa, its amazing that a lot of people take this thread and generalize it so much. The OP is trying to find more motivation towards and GW and wants to play it more because I think he wants to enjoy it how he used to enjoy GW back in the day.

But in the end you got people like cebalrai that loves to troll and change the direction of what the OP is wanting to ask on people's opinion. If you don't know, the OP is asking what are people's motivation towards GW, so he can I imagine to start playing again, but I guess the village idiot and the pack of bogan's will ultimately transform the message to an lower understanding.

Take a step back and look at the situation. Why are you trying to force yourself to play something you don't enjoy? Log off, and take a break. Find something else which you might enjoy.

Don't worry it doesn't have to be permanent, you'll love the game once again, go see what a 2 month break will do for you

like some other's here I still find the game interesting and fun, I make myself some goals, but instead of focusing on titles or ranking I focus on my characters, trying new ones, new professions, new builds. making my character just how I want them, perfect armor weapons, etc. not to mention all the high end content I haven't looked at yet, DoA, Tombs, etc.

All that's not to mention all the PvP I haven't even considered yet.

but if you've tried different things (and the many things the kind people here have suggested) and nothing seems to spur your interest anymore then maybe you need a break from it, like any game it only has so much content, and despite GW's insane amount of it, if it's not entertaining you anymore then why play it now?

Your friends still playing will understand if you take a break or leave the game completely, GW isn't a comitment. In fact it's the pinnacle of relaxed mmo's, if you decide the game isn't for you anymore or just for a while there's no penalty, no wasted subscription money. And what's better if you decide you want to come back in a week, a month or even a year down the road it'll still be here for you.

Just don't say the game is stagnating, it's not, new expansions (or campaigns) every 1/2 a year or so plus lots of holiday and festival events (don't pretend like those aren't fun times with the community), there's always new content.

Personaly how I keep the game fresh and fun is I always change what I'm doing, one day I've dungeon crawling, the other I'm mapping, the next I'm chatting with guildes and the next I'm trying to get my guildies to do so HA.

Always changing, never concentrating on on thing for two long, but then I always come back to complet my goals, so I'm slowly getting multiple goals at the same time.

How many characters have you made for PvE?
How many characters do you use for PvP?

I admit I skipped a lot of the posts, but I didn't see you say what it is you have done in the game, what you enjoyed, and what you didn't enjoy. It sounds like you have done the same things repeatedly, and that got boring. If you enjoyed PvE, but never made certain classes, then make a new character. If you enjoyed PvP, and are just tired of the same maps, try more GvG and scrimmages. Scrimmages with people willing to try new things can become quite creative and different.

Seriously, I doubt you have done everything there is to do in the game, as the time you listed for having played is far less then mine, and I have lots of things I have not done yet. Maybe its just a matter of finding those new things and trying them.

You know what you need to do? Find a LOAD of games you enjoy. Play them all. Start to finish. Then try a little GW each day/week as a break. I mean GW is so incredibly easy compared to the games I play that require thought that it's actually quite a good break. Even the Kilroy Stonekin's punchout tournament is a good 5-10 minute break.

Well one can always work on perfecting their HOM and see what un-locks when GW2 comes out

I started a project in my own guild where we play the game much like we did when playing HardCore Diablo II if anyone has ever played that. We have set aside some times and events we run through and the goal is to reach 3rd tier survivor without dying. We are not allowed to gift characters with items from higher level toons and must only use what we find while playing. It's been pretty fun and a nice challenge. Anyone can reach 3rd tier by using exp scrolls and farming Hard Mode and some easy areas but doesn't that cheapen the title ? We're doing this while playing through the game while semi-role playing and if the character dies it is deleted

I've been playing for a long time and I'm far from bored. In fact the people I usually see complain about being bored the most are the Farming crowd and people who simply rush through the game never questing and only hit the primary objectives. Yeah I guess doing that I would become bored myself. In the end it's the people we game with that make and keep the game fun.

Girlfriends are more expensive then WoW ... and let's not even go into wives and children here.

If you play non-competitive games to death they get boring quickly. Furthermore, if you consider non-MMO games, you'll notice that you just beat them and then move on to something else. I don't think anyone has thousands of hours logged on their Final Fantasy __ save files; rather, you beat the game, maybe play it over once or twice, unlock secrets, and then you play something else. GW is essentially the same way, except that, after beating the game, you can go back and do other stuff if you so choose. There's an end of the road somewhere though, and once you reach it you do the same as you would with any other game - put it down and play something else.

Competitive games are a totally different story - provided you have quality competition available to you, those should almost never get boring. Rather, people tend to give up those games only when something better comes along.
